ROCKLAND, ME — A student died after being struck by a school bus at the intersection of Broadway and Eliza Steele Drive on Friday afternoon.
Rockland Police and Rockland Fire & EMS Department responded to the vehicle versus pedestrian accident at approximately 2:20 p.m. on Nov. 21.
The child, an RSU 13 student, was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and airlifted to Maine Medical Center, where the child later died.
The bus operator has been placed on administrative leave.
RSU-13 is fully cooperating with the investigation.
The Rockland Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division is working with the Knox County District Attorney’s Office to investigate the incident.
Assisting in the investigation are experts from the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutor’s Program, Office of Chief Medical Examiner, Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit and Maine State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit.
