Man charged with manslaughter in Mount Vernon

MOUNT VERNON, NY — A 32-year-old man has been charged with first-degree manslaughter following a fatal stabbing Friday morning.

Mount Vernon police responded to a call reporting a menacing incident at approximately 8:30 a.m. on the 100 block of Stevens Avenue.

Officers arrived and encountered the suspect at the scene before locating a 68-year-old male victim inside the residence suffering from a stab wound.

The victim was transported to Jacobi Medical Center in stable condition but later died from his injuries.

Astillo Sylvain, 32, of Mount Vernon, was arrested by patrol officers at the scene.

Sylvain lived at the same location as the victim, according to police.

Following an investigation by the Detective Division, Sylvain was charged with Manslaughter in the First Degree.

The investigation remains active, and police are not releasing further details at this time.
