Man arrested on robbery charge in Montville

MONTVILLE, CT — A man was arrested after an armed robbery at a smoke shop on Route 32 on Nov. 21.

Montville police officers were dispatched to the Smoking Ape Smoke Shop at 2020 Route 32 at 9:21 p.m. for a report of an active robbery where a firearm was implied and threatened to be used.

Police said a masked man entered the store, stole a cell phone from an employee, forced the employee to the ground and tied the employee’s hands behind their back.

The suspect then stole three cartons of cigarettes and $510 in cash, according to police.

A customer walked into the store during the robbery and was threatened before the suspect fled, police said.

Responding officers located Victor Anderson, 59, of Norwich, in the area.

Anderson fought with officers while being detained, according to police.

Surveillance cameras confirmed Anderson as the suspect, police said.

Cash, cigarettes and a fake firearm were recovered from Anderson, according to police.

Anderson was arrested and transported to Montville Police Department for processing.

He was held on a $750,000 cash/surety bond.

Anderson was charged with third-degree assault, two counts of first-degree threatening, two counts of first-degree reckless endangerment, unlawful restraint, fifth-degree larceny, first-degree robbery, interfering with an officer, two counts of second-degree breach of peace, two counts of interfering with an emergency call and carrying/brandishing of a facsimile firearm.

Anderson is scheduled to appear in Norwich court on Nov. 24.
