Loaded handgun recovered during traffic stop in Albany, NY

ALBANY, NY — On-duty police officers recovered a loaded handgun following a traffic stop Friday night in the area of Clinton Avenue and Ontario Street.

Officers stopped a vehicle in the area around 9:05 p.m. Nov. 21 after observing a violation of the vehicle and traffic law.

During the traffic stop, it was determined that the rear passenger, Nycream Leverett, 28, of Albany, had an active warrant issued out of Albany City Criminal Court on Dec. 15, 2023.

Upon taking Leverett into custody, a loaded .38 caliber revolver was recovered from his waistband.

He was also found to be in possession of a quantity of crack cocaine.

Leverett has been charged with one count of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and one count of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree.

He was arraigned Saturday morning in Albany City Criminal Court and remanded to the Albany County Jail.

Zanique Brown, 30, of Albany, was also taken into custody during the traffic stop for failing to comply with officers’ commands and interfering with the arrest of Leverett.

Brown has been charged with one count of obstructing governmental administration in the second degree.

He was given an appearance ticket and will appear in Albany City Criminal Court on a later date.
