DERBY, VT — A Derby man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence for the third time after police responded to several calls he made Friday morning.
Police said Matthew Garneau, 41, of Derby called the State Police several times around 9:09 a.m. on Nov. 21.
Authorities reported that Garneau sounded intoxicated on the phone and was believed to be operating a motor vehicle during the calls.
Troopers canvassed the area of Sunset Terrace, where Garneau was last known to be, and located him attempting to hide his vehicle behind a house.
Police said Garneau showed signs of impairment and, after further investigation, was placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI.
Garneau was transported to the Derby Barracks for processing.
He was subsequently lodged at Northern State Correctional Facility with bail set at $5,000.
Garneau is scheduled to appear in the Criminal Division of Vermont Superior Court in Newport at 12:30 p.m. on Nov. 24.
