POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — A Poughkeepsie man was arrested after allegedly fleeing police during a traffic stop that ended in a collision on Main Street on Nov. 17 at approximately 3:35 p.m.
According to New York State Police, members of the Troop K Community Stabilization Unit and State Police at Poughkeepsie attempted to stop a vehicle for violations of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law.
Police said the vehicle initially complied but then fled, resulting in a short pursuit.
The pursuit ended when the vehicle sideswiped an occupied car, forcing it into another occupied vehicle before coming to a stop.
The driver and sole occupant, identified as Shamar Parker, 39, of Poughkeepsie, was taken into custody without further incident.
The occupants of the other vehicles declined medical attention at the scene.
A probable cause search of the vehicle and Parker yielded a quantity of narcotics, a loaded stolen 9MM handgun, and drug paraphernalia.
Parker was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a weapon 2nd degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance 5th degree, criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of stolen property 4th degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance 7th degree, criminal use of drug paraphernalia 2nd degree, reckless endangerment 2nd degree, unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle 3rd degree, and multiple New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law violations.
Parker was arraigned before the City of Poughkeepsie Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Justice and Transition Center.
