NORWALK, CT — A 41-year-old man was arrested on multiple weapons charges after police found him loitering in front of a storefront.
Norwalk patrol officers were conducting selective enforcement in the area of 40 Woodward Avenue at 4:02 p.m. on Nov. 19.
The initiative was launched in response to recent concerns from residents and business owners regarding loitering, public drinking and other quality-of-life issues.
Officers approached two individuals who were loitering in front of a storefront displaying “No Loitering Police Enforced” signs.
During their interaction with one of the individuals, identified as Mathew Clark Jr., 41, of Norwalk, officers discovered he was in possession of a multi-colored Byrna HD firearm.
The firearm was equipped with a magazine loaded with pepper-ball ammunition and a CO₂ cartridge.
Clark was taken into custody and transported to Norwalk Police Headquarters for processing.
Clark, who is a convicted felon, refused to be fingerprinted during processing, resulting in an additional charge.
He was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, carrying a dangerous weapon, failure to comply with fingerprint requirements and carrying a pistol without a permit.
Clark was held on $200,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 3.
