BOSTON, MA — A 25-year-old man was arrested on firearm charges and two outstanding warrants Tuesday evening in Dorchester.
Members of the Youth Violence Strike Force arrested Keondre Barrett, of Dorchester, following a traffic stop on Mascot Street.
Officers were conducting an investigation in the area of Mascot Street at about 6:48 p.m. when they observed a motor vehicle park on the street.
The target of the investigation was seen exiting a building and entering the front passenger seat of the vehicle.
Officers followed the vehicle and observed it fail to stop at a marked stop sign at the intersection of Mountain Avenue and Dumas Street.
Officers activated their emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop.
The front passenger was identified as the target of the investigation and was requested to exit the vehicle.
As officers began opening the door, Barrett immediately closed it, according to police.
Officers quickly opened the door again before the suspect could lock it.
Barrett actively resisted officers’ orders and tensed his body during multiple attempts to remove him from the vehicle, police said.
Officers removed Barrett from the vehicle and placed him in handcuffs.
During a search, officers recovered a Glock 42 with ten rounds in the magazine.
Barrett is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition without an FID card, carrying a loaded firearm without a license and resisting arrest.
Barrett also had outstanding warrants issued out of Suffolk Superior Court for unarmed robbery and Boston Municipal Court for unlawful possession of a firearm.
