LOCKE, NY — A Moravia man was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated after a car he was driving struck a utility pole late Sunday night, according to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said they were dispatched to the scene of a single-vehicle crash on Route 90 in the Town of Locke at approximately 11:52 p.m. on November 17.

An investigation determined that Darek Delaney, 21, of Moravia, was the sole occupant of a vehicle that left the roadway and hit a utility pole, causing it to break in half.

Delaney sustained minor injuries and was transported to Auburn Hospital by Four Town Ambulance, where he was treated and provided a blood sample to determine his blood alcohol content.

Upon completion of medical treatment, deputies arrested Delaney and charged him with DWI first offense, DWI per se, speeding, and moving from lane unsafely.

Delaney was processed at the Sheriff’s Office and issued traffic tickets to appear in the Town of Locke Court on December 3 at 7 p.m.

All suspects accused of a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
