DARTMOUTH, MA — A weeks-long narcotics investigation led to the arrest of a Dartmouth man on multiple drug charges, police announced Thursday.
Jeremiah Cowart, 34, of Dartmouth, was arrested Nov. 14 after detectives executed a search warrant at his residence on Huntington Avenue.
Cowart fled from his house and ran into a wooded area behind the residence before being taken into custody by Dartmouth Police detectives, according to police.
The Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council SWAT Team secured the residence, with assistance from the Dartmouth Police Department’s K-9 Unit and Drone Unit.
Detectives recovered approximately 21 grams of suspected fentanyl, a bag containing suspected oxycodone tablets weighing approximately 6 grams, and $4,013 in U.S. currency.
Police also seized scales and packaging materials consistent with the distribution of illegal narcotics, as well as a hydraulic press used to compress powdered narcotics.
Cowart was charged with trafficking in fentanyl more than 10 grams, possession with intent to distribute class A drugs, subsequent offense, and possession with intent to distribute class B drugs, subsequent offense.
He was transported to Dartmouth Police Headquarters for booking and was scheduled to be arraigned in New Bedford District Court.
The investigation was conducted by the Dartmouth Police Department’s Community Impact Unit in collaboration with Massachusetts State Police Troopers assigned to the State Police Detective Unit.
