TEWKSBURY, MA — A Lawrence man faces multiple charges after allegedly stealing a cellphone from a motel room and fleeing across Interstate 495 on Tuesday.

Jean Guzman Familia, 33, of Lawrence, was arrested and charged with unarmed robbery, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, breaking and entering daytime, and an active warrant.

At approximately 9:23 p.m. Tuesday, the Tewksbury Police Department was notified of a disturbance in the area of 95 Main St.

A preliminary investigation determined that Guzman Familia entered a motel room at 95 Main St. without authorization and forcibly took a cellular telephone from a woman staying in the room.

Officers determined Guzman Familia was wanted on an active arrest warrant.

Guzman Familia fled the scene, prompting officers to search the immediate area with assistance from the Tewksbury Police Drone Unit.

An officer spotted Guzman Familia in the area of Main Street and Interstate 495, but he ran into a wooded area near the highway.

The drone unit located Guzman Familia in the wooded area and observed from overhead as he attempted to run across the lanes of the interstate.

Guzman Familia appeared to be clipped by a vehicle as he attempted to cross the interstate and went down in the highway’s median.

Officers quickly responded to his location and provided first aid.

Guzman Familia was initially unconscious but regained consciousness after being given a dose of Narcan.

He was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and released later in the day.

Guzman Familia was then booked at the Tewksbury Police Department.

He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in Lowell District Court.
