LIVERMORE, ME — Two people died after a single-vehicle crash on Federal Road on Nov. 17.

A deputy from the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office was parked at the Turner Town Office at the intersection of Route 117 and Route 4 observing traffic at approximately 10:30 p.m. when his attention was drawn to a dark-colored vehicle traveling north on Route 4 at a high rate of speed with a loud exhaust.

The deputy left the town office complex and started north on Route 4 trying to catch up to the vehicle.

The suspect vehicle was traveling in excess of 100 mph and was seen passing other vehicles.

The deputy activated his emergency lights as he attempted to catch up to the suspect vehicle, but was never able to get close enough to the vehicle and terminated his attempt.

Shortly after the deputy terminated his attempt to catch up to the suspect vehicle, he came upon a single-vehicle crash in the 1800 block of Federal Road.

The investigation determined that the vehicle, a blue 2013 Audi Q5, left the roadway, colliding with a mailbox, clipped a utility pole, then became airborne and struck a second utility pole, causing the utility pole to break and wires to come down across Federal Road.

The vehicle then collided with a tree where it came to rest.

The two occupants of the vehicle were ejected and died at the scene.

Federal Road was closed to all traffic from Route 108 in Livermore to Route 219 in Turner.

Federal Road was reopened at 4:50 a.m. after Central Maine Power replaced the utility pole and made repairs.

Deputies were assisted by a crash reconstructionist from the Lewiston Police Department as well as the Livermore and Turner fire departments.

The names of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
