GROTON, CT — Police responded to a report of a man possibly carrying a firearm near a local school Monday morning.
Officers with the City of Groton Police Department quickly located the individual after receiving the report.
An investigation determined the item in the man’s hand was not a firearm.
Police said the situation was unfounded and there was no threat to public safety.
Nearby schools were placed on lockdown as a precaution until officers secured the scene and confirmed there was no danger.
The lockdown was lifted after police determined the situation posed no threat.
