ENDICOTT, NY — A 54-year-old man is facing five felony charges after allegedly attempting to meet with someone he believed was a 13-year-old girl for sex.
Denis A. Dean, of Endwell, was arrested Monday following an investigation involving the Broome County Sheriff’s Office and YouTube content creator JiDion of the “EDP Watch” video series.
The sheriff’s office was contacted Monday by the YouTuber, who posts videos of child predator investigations using decoys posing as juveniles.
Detectives were told Dean had been communicating with a decoy posing as a 13-year-old girl since Nov. 12.
Over the five-day period, Dean allegedly sent multiple inappropriate images of himself to the decoy and arranged to meet in person Monday to have sex with someone he believed to be a 13-year-old girl.
Dean was confronted by members of EDP Watch that afternoon at a predetermined meeting spot in the village of Endicott.
Members of the Broome County Sheriff’s Office Strategic Response Group and Endicott Police Department responded to the location and took Dean into custody.
In subsequent interviews, Dean confirmed to investigators that he had sent inappropriate sexual pictures to and planned on having sex with a 13-year-old girl, according to the sheriff’s office.
Dean was charged with attempted rape in the second degree, a class E felony, and four counts of attempted disseminating indecent material to minors in the first degree, class E felonies.
He was arraigned and remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility without bail.
