Juvenile charged with attempted arson in Utica

UTICA, NY — A 17-year-old male has been charged with attempted arson and criminal mischief after allegedly damaging a home and trying to set it on fire.

Utica police were dispatched to a residence on the 800 block of Huntington Street on Nov. 11 regarding a criminal mischief investigation.

Officers spoke with a victim who stated that several neighborhood juveniles had been causing problems at his home.

The victim reported that on that date, the juveniles had damaged windows and poured a flammable liquid on his home and attempted to ignite the liquid.

The homeowner provided a description of the suspects, and officers located several parties matching the description while on scene.

The case was assigned to a member of the Juvenile Aid Unit.

On Nov. 18, the 17-year-old was charged with criminal mischief in the second degree, involving damage over $1,800, and attempted arson in the second degree.

The juvenile’s identity will not be released due to his age.

Additional arrests are likely when the other parties are located, police said.
