ROXBURY, MA — Boston Police arrested two men early Monday morning following a traffic stop that resulted in the recovery of a loaded firearm with an obliterated serial number and 34 grams of cocaine and crack cocaine.
Rayshod Taylor, 38, of Mattapan, and Travis Windley, 37, of Boston, were taken into custody and face multiple firearm and drug-related charges.
At approximately 2:45 a.m., officers assigned to District B-2 observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and nearly striking several parked cars.
Officers activated their emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver initially failed to stop, slowing gradually before coming to a stop in the area of 39 Wenonah Street.
Upon approaching the vehicle, officers requested the operator’s license and registration.
The driver was unable to produce a physical license but verbally identified himself.
During the investigation, officers asked both occupants to exit the vehicle.
The operator rolled up his window, locked the doors, and put the vehicle in reverse, striking a police cruiser.
He then shifted into drive in an attempt to flee.
With assistance from additional responding officers, the operator was removed from the vehicle.
Despite repeated verbal commands, the suspect continued to resist.
Both individuals were taken into custody, and a firearm was recovered inside the vehicle.
During an inventory search of the vehicle, officers located several plastic bags containing cocaine and crack cocaine, with a combined weight of 34 grams.
The recovered firearm was identified as a Smith & Wesson M&P Shield, loaded with one round in the chamber and six rounds in the magazine.
The weapon’s serial number had been intentionally obliterated.
Both suspects are expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
Taylor faces charges of carrying a loaded firearm without a license, third offense; possession of a firearm without a license; possession of ammunition without a license; defacement of a firearm serial number; trafficking of Class B; and possession with intent to distribute Class B.
Windley faces charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a police officer; resist arrest; fail to stop for police; vandalize property; possession of an open container in a motor vehicle; and speed exceeding the posted limit.
