Man arrested in Corinth homicide

CORINTH, ME — Maine State Police have arrested a Connecticut man in connection with a September homicide that left one man dead and another wounded.

Jawon Owens, 27, of East Hartford, Connecticut, was arrested Thursday by Hartford Police Department without incident on charges of murder, aggravated assault and aggravated assault with a firearm.

State police troopers responded to multiple 911 calls reporting gunshots in the area of 272 Main Street in Corinth at approximately 12:01 a.m. on Sept. 21.

Troopers found Michael McGregor, 32, of Skowhegan, wounded outside a residence.

McGregor received life-saving measures at the scene and was transported by LifeFlight to a local hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds.

Troopers entered a nearby apartment and discovered a deceased male.

The victim was identified as Scott Roberts, 46, of Glenburn.

An autopsy conducted Sept. 22 at the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta determined Roberts died from a gunshot wound and the manner of death was ruled a homicide.

Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit North and members of the Evidence Response Team investigated the incident.

Owens is being held at Hartford Correctional Facility pending extradition to Maine for an initial appearance at Bangor Judicial Center.

Police said there is no ongoing risk to the public, but the investigation remains active.
