Man arrested on felony weapon charge in Whitehall

WHITEHALL, NY — The Washington County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man on an arrest warrant following a domestic dispute on County Route 11 and Abair Road.

Waylon D. Phillips, 24, of Benson, was taken into custody after turning himself in to authorities.

According to Sheriff Jeffrey J. Murphy, an investigation determined that during the incident, Phillips obstructed the breathing of his passenger and later pointed a rifle at the individual.

Phillips fled to Vermont before deputies arrived at the scene.

He was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, a class D felony, Menacing in the Second Degree, a class A misdemeanor, and Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, a class A misdemeanor.

Phillips was arraigned in Washington County Centralized Arraignment and released on his own recognizance pending a future court appearance in the Town of Whitehall Court.
