NEW HARTFORD, NY — A police officer on patrol noticed a suspicious pickup truck in the Byrne Dairy parking lot on Campion Road at approximately 1 a.m. Thursday.
When the operator of the pickup truck noticed the police vehicle, the operator backed up, nearly colliding with a light pole.
As the officer approached the pickup truck, the truck sped off onto Campion Road.
Police attempted to stop the pickup truck along Campion Road to Oxford Road, ultimately stopping the vehicle on Oxford Road at Daly Place.
Upon approaching the operator, police detected signs of impairment.
The operator was identified as Kevin Hagberg, 64, of New Hartford.
Police administered standardized field sobriety tests and determined that Hagberg was intoxicated.
Hagberg was charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor; driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content of .08% or higher; felony driving while intoxicated due to a prior DWI conviction within 10 years; and failure to comply with a lawful order.
Hagberg was processed at the New Hartford Police Department and will answer the charges in Town of New Hartford Court in December.
