PORT JERVIS, NY — A 31-year-old man faces multiple felony charges following an investigation into alleged sexual communications with a minor.

Ronald Babcock, of Port Jervis, was arrested Friday on an indictment warrant by the New York State Police Child Abuse Unit in Orange County and the Port Jervis Police Department.

The investigation began after state police received notification from the Deerpark Police Department regarding a law enforcement referral alleging an adult male had been engaging in telephonic sexual communications with a 14-year-old female.

The Deerpark Police Department reported receiving minimal cooperation from the alleged victim’s parents, who failed to intervene and allowed the telephonic contact to continue.

The department filed a report with the New York State Central Registry, prompting a joint investigation by the Child Abuse Unit and Orange County Child Protective Services.

A grand jury indicted Babcock on two counts of use of a child in a sexual performance, a class C felony; eight counts of possessing a sexual performance by a child, a class E felony; and endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor.

Babcock was transported to State Police Greenville barracks for processing without incident.

He was arraigned at Orange County Court and remanded to the Orange County Jail with bail set at $35,000, bond set at $250,000 and a partially secured bond set at $300,000.

Babcock is scheduled to appear in Orange County Court on Nov. 25 at 10:30 a.m.
