SPRINGFIELD, MA — A man with dozens of prior arrests was taken into custody Wednesday in connection with two robberies targeting elderly women.
Angel Gonzalez, 38, of Springfield, was arrested at approximately 2:30 p.m. by members of the Springfield Police Detective Bureau under the direction of Captain Trent Duda.
On Oct. 28, officers responded to the 0-100 block of Bond Street for a report of an unarmed robbery where a suspect allegedly stole a purse from an 80-year-old woman.
On Nov. 5, officers responded to the 2100 block of Main Street for a report of an unarmed robbery involving an 80-year-old woman.
The suspect allegedly stole a purse from the victim, who suffered minor injuries during the incident.
Springfield Police detectives investigated and identified Gonzalez as the suspect in both incidents.
Detectives applied for and were granted two warrants for his arrest.
On Wednesday, detectives located Gonzalez inside an apartment on the 2200 block of Main Street and placed him under arrest.
Gonzalez has 56 prior adult arraignments.
He has a prior conviction for unarmed robbery and larceny of a person 60 years or older in 2023 and larceny from a person 60 years or older in 2014, among numerous other convictions.
Gonzalez is charged with two counts of unarmed robbery of a person 60 years or older and larceny from a person 65 years or older.
