Man arrested in connection with Jersey City homicide

JERSEY CITY, NJ — A man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in May.

Gerard Rosario, 28, of Jersey City, was arrested Wednesday on 38th Street in Union City by members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit, Gang Task Force, and the United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force.

Rosario is charged with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and certain persons not to possess a firearm.

He was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance.

Shortly after 4 p.m. on May 3, the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a motor vehicle crash in the area of Old Bergen Road and Merritt Street.

Responding officers located an unresponsive male in the driver’s seat of a vehicle that had crashed into a tree on Merritt Street.

The victim, later identified as Devon Reid, 39, of Elizabeth, was discovered with a gunshot wound to the neck.

Reid was transported by Emergency Medical Services to the Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at approximately 7:16 p.m.

Acting Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello credited the Homicide Unit, Gang Task Force, and the United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force with the arrest.
