MINOT, ME — A two-vehicle crash sent several people to the hospital Wednesday morning after a pickup truck struck a fallen tree and crossed into oncoming traffic.

The Androscoggin County Regional Communications Center received multiple 911 calls at approximately 8:13 a.m. reporting the crash in the 800 block of Center Minot Hill Road.

Deputies from the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office, along with Minot Fire-Rescue, the Auburn Fire Department and United Ambulance Service, responded to the scene.

A preliminary investigation indicates a red 1989 Ford F-150 pickup truck operated by Sherwood Jordan, 73, of Bethel, was traveling toward Auburn when it struck a tree that had fallen into the roadway.

The impact caused Jordan to lose control of the vehicle, cross the centerline and collide with a gray 2025 Toyota RAV4 traveling in the opposite direction.

The Toyota was operated by Howie Wu, 16, of Brooklyn, New York.

Jordan, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was partially ejected from the vehicle.

Mitzie Naples, a passenger in the Ford, along with three occupants of Wu’s vehicle, were transported by United Ambulance Service and Auburn Fire-Rescue to a local hospital for treatment and evaluation of non-life-threatening injuries.

The roadway was temporarily closed while emergency personnel cleared the scene and investigated the crash.

The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident.
