SOMERSWORTH, NH — A pedestrian and his dog were killed after being struck by a vehicle on Nov. 7.

First responders were called to the area of Hickory Lane and Old Rochester Road at approximately 4:41 p.m. for a vehicle versus pedestrian crash.

The pedestrian, Steven Forrest of Somersworth, and his dog, Randall, were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Lifesaving efforts on both were unsuccessful.

The driver, whose identity is not being released at this time, was found a short distance from the scene along with his vehicle, a 2017 Volkswagen Golf.

The driver cooperated with the investigation.

Police Chief John Sundersand said events like this must be investigated properly and that takes time.

“Over the course of this investigation, we will be able to determine if there was fault and if there was who is responsible, or if there was no fault and this was a tragic accident,” Sundersand said.

Police said motorists and pedestrians must obey the laws of the road and recommended pedestrians wear light or reflective clothing, especially when walking at night or during inclement weather.

Police also recommended those walking with a pet place some type of reflective gear on them as well.
