GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — A Sicklerville man has been charged with death by auto following a fatal crash that killed a 76-year-old man and seriously injured his wife.
Marcus A. Young, 23, of Sicklerville, was charged with second-degree death by auto and third-degree assault by auto for his role in the October 11 crash.
Louis Bontya, 76, of Gloucester Township, died from injuries sustained in the collision.
His wife, Christina Bontya, 75, suffered serious injuries.
Officers from the Gloucester Township Police Department responded to the crash at approximately 10:13 p.m. on Saturday, October 11, at the intersection of Berlin Cross Keys Road and Johnson Road in the Sicklerville section of Gloucester Township.
Upon arrival, officers found a sport utility vehicle and a sedan, both with extensive damage.
A preliminary investigation by the Gloucester Township Police Department’s Serious Crash Investigation Team determined that the sedan was traveling on Berlin Cross Keys Road toward the Black Horse Pike when it collided with the SUV in the intersection at Johnson Road.
The force of the impact trapped all three occupants inside their vehicles, requiring extrication by fire department personnel.
Emergency medical care was provided by first responders from multiple agencies, including the Gloucester Township Police Department, Winslow Police Department, Monroe Police Department, Inspira Basic Life Support, Winslow Basic Life Support, Virtua Paramedics, Gloucester Township Fire District #6, Lambs Terrace Fire Department, and the Winslow Fire Department.
The intersection of Berlin Cross Keys Road was closed for several hours due to the severity of the crash.
The investigation was conducted in conjunction with the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office.
