Driver arrested on DWI charge following crash in Moreau

MOREAU, NY — The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man on drunken driving charges following a single-vehicle crash Friday afternoon.

Deputies responded to a motor vehicle crash at 1:58 p.m. on Fort Edward Road.

Mason G. Murphy, 50, of Hudson Falls, was charged with driving while intoxicated and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the first degree, both class E felonies.

He was also charged with circumventing an ignition interlock device, a class A misdemeanor.

Murphy faces additional charges of moving from lane unsafely, speed not reasonable and prudent, uninspected motor vehicle and consuming alcohol in a motor vehicle on a public highway, all infractions.

Police said Murphy was operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and at a time when his driver’s license was revoked for a previous DWI conviction.

He is also accused of operating a motor vehicle without a court-ordered ignition interlock device and moving from his lane without first ascertaining that he could do so safely.

Murphy was also charged with operating his vehicle at a greater speed than was reasonable and prudent under the circumstances and operating a motor vehicle without a valid certificate of inspection.

Murphy was released on appearance tickets pending proceedings in Moreau Town Court.

No other vehicles or persons were involved in the crash.
