BOSTON, MA — Five juveniles were arrested Monday night after officers interrupted an attempted moped theft in Dorchester.
Officers assigned to District B-3 were patrolling the area of Washington Street and Brent Street at approximately 9:13 p.m. in response to community concerns about the reckless operation of off-highway vehicles.
During their patrol, officers observed a group of juveniles gathered in the parking lot at 637 Washington Street.
As they approached, the group was seen surrounding a red moped and attempting to tamper with its steering column.
When officers entered the lot, the suspects fled on foot.
After a brief pursuit, police detained five individuals.
While investigating, officers were approached by the moped’s owner, who reported that the same group had tried to rob her of the moped earlier on Talbot Avenue.
Officers noted visible damage to the moped, including a cracked front cover and a broken steering column.
Five juveniles, ranging in age from 14 to 17, were placed under arrest.
They are expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges of delinquent to wit; unarmed robbery and delinquent to wit; malicious destruction of property under $1,200.
