SPRINGFIELD, MA — Police seized a firearm and arrested a man early Sunday after responding to a report of a woman being struck with a gun.
Officers assigned to Squad “A” under the direction of Sergeant Ivan Rosas were dispatched to the 0-100 block of Massachusetts Avenue at approximately 1:10 a.m. for a report of a woman being struck with a firearm.
Officers arrived and located an individual holding a firearm.
Officers learned that this individual had disarmed the suspect, later identified as Daivon Ferguson, 26, of Springfield.
Ferguson was still in the area and was detained.
A victim told police she walked to her vehicle and saw a stranger, Ferguson, in her back seat.
The victim stated she was struck with the butt end of a firearm.
Ferguson was placed under arrest at approximately 1:40 a.m.
When officers arrived at Springfield Police Headquarters, Ferguson began kicking and head-butting officers.
Ferguson has three prior convictions for violent offenses.
Ferguson is charged with firearm violation with three prior violent/drug crimes, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, breaking and entering into a vehicle at nighttime for a felony, two counts of assault and battery on a police officer, and attempted arson.
