Man arrested on forgery charge in Utica

UTICA, NY — Police arrested a man accused of attempting to withdraw nearly $7,000 from a bank using a stolen driver’s license.

Wayne Curtis, 66, of Gardiner, Maine, was taken into custody Nov. 5 after a bank teller grew suspicious of the transaction.

The teller contacted the actual account holder, who confirmed his wallet had been stolen and he had not authorized the withdrawal.

Police were called to the scene and detained Curtis.

The Criminal Investigations Division took over the case.

Curtis was charged with second-degree forgery, second-degree identity theft and attempted third-degree grand larceny.
