DURHAM, NY — New York State Police arrested a man following a domestic incident on Nov. 4.
Troopers from the Catskill barracks responded to a report of a physical domestic incident at a residence on State Route 145 at approximately 6:34 p.m.
The investigation revealed that Steven J. Hines, 36, of East Durham, engaged in a physical altercation with a 35-year-old female victim.
During the incident, Hines obstructed the victim’s breathing, prevented her from leaving the room, and took away her cellphone, according to police.
A 13-year-old male and an 8-year-old female were present in the residence at the time of the altercation.
Hines was arrested and transported to the State Police barracks in Catskill for processing.
He was charged with criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, unlawful imprisonment in the second degree, criminal mischief in the fourth degree, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and harassment in the second degree.
Hines was arraigned in Greenville Town Court and released on his own recognizance.
He is scheduled to appear in Durham Town Court on Nov. 24 at 3:30 p.m.
