CORTLAND, NY — A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a stabbing that left two people in critical condition on Halloween night.
Alex Green, of Cortland, was charged with two counts of assault in the second degree and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree.
Officers from the Cortland Police Department responded to 6 Delaware Avenue at approximately 9:52 p.m. on Oct. 31 for a report of a disturbance involving a possible weapon.
Witnesses reported multiple individuals yelling and fighting outside the residence.
Upon arrival, officers did not initially locate anyone involved but observed signs of a recent gathering in and around the property.
They detained two subjects at the scene, but no victims were located at that time.
A short time later, police were notified that two individuals had arrived at Guthrie Cortland Medical Center with stab wounds believed to have occurred during the incident at 6 Delaware Avenue.
The victims were stabilized for their injuries, and two of them were later transferred to Upstate University Hospital due to the severity of their wounds.
Both victims were listed in critical condition but were later listed in stable condition the following morning.
An investigation determined that Green was involved in a physical altercation during which both victims sustained stab wounds.
Green was taken into custody at the residence without further incident.
Evidence was collected from the residence, and multiple witnesses were interviewed.
Green was held for arraignment in Cortland City Court.
The investigation remains ongoing.
