WORCESTER, MA — A juvenile male was arrested Nov. 6 after allegedly breaking into a residence and fleeing from police before jumping into a pond.
Worcester Police officers were dispatched to a residence on Mill Street at approximately 4:27 a.m. for a breaking and entering in progress.
The victim told officers they observed the male breaking in on their security cameras and provided a detailed description of the suspect and his clothing.
Several officers responded to the area and observed the suspect, who fled on foot.
A perimeter was secured and a search was initiated.
At approximately 6:22 a.m., a Massachusetts State Police trooper located a male matching the description of the suspect on Glendale Street.
The suspect again fled on foot from officers.
He wound up in a resident’s backyard and with nowhere else to go, the suspect jumped into Patch Pond.
A Manny Tube was deployed for the safety of the suspect and the officers.
Officers jumped into the water and placed the male into custody.
Officers gave him a thermal blanket to stay warm before he was taken to a nearby hospital to be medically evaluated.
The juvenile is charged with unarmed burglary in nighttime, larceny under $1,250 (two counts), malicious destruction of property (two counts), possession of burglarious tools and resisting arrest.
The arrest comes after two breaking and entering incidents in nearby Tatnuck Square.
The Worcester Police Department’s Detective Bureau is investigating to see if the juvenile was responsible for those incidents as well.
