Shooting investigated at SUNY Morrisville

MORRISVILLE, NY — New York State Police are investigating a shooting that occurred on the SUNY Morrisville campus Monday afternoon.

At approximately 3:45 p.m., troopers responded to South Hall following a report of a person shot.

Upon arrival, troopers located a 20-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the neck.

The victim, who is not a student at SUNY Morrisville, was transported to Upstate University Hospital for treatment.

The victim remains hospitalized but his injuries are not considered life threatening.

No other individuals were injured during the incident.

The preliminary investigation has determined that this was an isolated dispute between people who were familiar with each other.

There is no indication of any ongoing threat to the campus community.

As a precaution, State Police and SUNY Morrisville are implementing additional security measures on campus, and an increased police presence will remain in place.

A command post was established as law enforcement processed the scene and searched nearby areas.

Members of the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Uniformed Services, Special Operations Response Team and K9 units assisted with the investigation.

State Police are working closely with University Police at SUNY Morrisville and the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
