DELHI, NY — A 24-year-old man was arrested on three counts of petit larceny following a series of shoplifting incidents at a local grocery store.

The Delhi Police Department arrested Devonte Cheatham, of Delhi, on Tuesday in connection with thefts at Price Chopper in the Village of Delhi.

The investigation began after a larceny complaint was filed on Oct. 2 reporting that a male subject had stolen merchandise from the store without attempting to pay.

Two additional thefts involving the same individual occurred on later dates.

Investigating officers identified the individual responsible with the assistance of store surveillance footage, village street cameras and license plate recognition-enabled cameras on the SUNY Delhi campus.

Store management provided written statements documenting three separate thefts, with the total value of stolen merchandise estimated at $245.02.

Cheatham was located at his residence and taken into custody without incident.

He was processed and issued appearance tickets returnable to the Delhi Town Court on Nov. 25 at 9 a.m.

Cheatham was also served with a ban letter prohibiting him from entering Price Chopper property.
