UTICA, NY — A man was arrested early Tuesday morning after police responded to a domestic incident on the 1400 block of Oneida Street.
Police were dispatched to the residence at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Nov. 4.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with a victim who reported she had been in an argument with a man.
During the argument, the man placed his hands around her neck and choked her until she lost consciousness, according to police.
When the victim regained consciousness, she fled the residence.
She later returned to the residence and found the man still present.
Another argument ensued, during which the victim was struck in the face with a hammer, police said.
The assault caused significant swelling and pain.
Police arrested the suspect after learning the facts of the incident.
Jervon Lanaux, 26, of Utica, was transported to the Utica Police Department.
He was charged with assault in the second degree, strangulation in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree.
