Man arrested on DUI charge in Newbury

NEWBURY, VT — A Newbury man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence early Tuesday after state police clocked him driving 118 mph on Interstate 91.

Jeffrey G. Nolan, 30, of Newbury, was stopped at approximately 12:05 a.m. at mile marker 105 on I-91 North.

Troopers from the St. Johnsbury Barracks were on routine patrol when they observed a vehicle traveling at an extremely high rate of speed.

Radar indicated the vehicle was traveling 118 mph in a posted 65 mph zone.

During the traffic stop, troopers detected indicators of impairment while speaking with Nolan.

Nolan was arrested for suspicion of DUI, excessive speed and negligent operation and transported to the St. Johnsbury Barracks for processing.

He was later issued a citation to appear in Orange County Superior Court – Criminal Division and released.

Nolan also received citations for driving 31 or more mph over the speed limit, operating without a license, unreasonable and imprudent speed when special hazards exist, failure to have his vehicle inspected within 15 days of Vermont registration, and failure to display a front registration plate.
