ONEONTA, NY — A 27-year-old man faces felony drug charges following a traffic stop early Saturday morning.
Maxwell R. Gardner, of Oneonta, was arrested by Otsego County Sheriff’s deputies after they observed multiple vehicle and traffic law violations on State Highway and Main Street in the Town of Oneonta.
Deputies stopped Gardner’s vehicle for the violations and determined he was operating the vehicle while intoxicated by alcohol, according to a press release from the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office.
Gardner was arrested and searched, at which time deputies found a large amount of powder cocaine on his person, the release stated.
He was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the second degree, an A-2 felony, and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree.
Gardner also faces charges of driving while intoxicated, operating a motor vehicle with .08 of 1% or more alcohol in blood, operating a motor vehicle while registration suspended, improper side window tint, improper rear window tint, unlicensed operator, unregistered motor vehicle, no/inadequate stop lamps and no/single license plate.
He was transported to the Sheriff’s Office and processed before being turned over to the jail.
Gardner was remanded without bail following his arraignment in Town of Oneonta Court.
