UTICA, NY — A 16-year-old was arrested on weapons charges after police responded to a shots fired call on Oct. 30.
Utica Police had initially responded to the 1200 block of Taylor Avenue on Oct. 28 following a ShotSpotter alert for gunfire.
Officers located several spent shell casings in front of a residence and determined that multiple rounds had entered the home, but no one was struck.
The investigation was assigned to the GIVE Unit, and investigators identified several individuals through video surveillance.
Police returned to the same residence on Oct. 30 for another 911 call reporting shots fired.
The investigation determined no shooting had occurred, but a dark-colored vehicle had driven by the residence and made threats to the tenants.
Surveillance video showed a male juvenile exiting the residence and pointing what appeared to be a firearm with a laser pointer at the vehicle before reentering the home with the weapon.
Officers obtained consent to search the residence and located the lower receiver of a handgun and a loaded magazine.
Police then found a loaded 9mm handgun consistent with the weapon shown in the video.
The juvenile was transported to the Utica Police Department for processing.
This is the second loaded handgun located on the individual this year.
The juvenile was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and criminal possession of a firearm.
He was released to his guardians with appearance tickets returnable to Oneida County Family Court/Probation.
The investigation into the Oct. 28 shots fired incident remains ongoing.
