GRANVILLE, NY — A man was arrested after allegedly driving through an active fire scene and over charged fire hoses while firefighters were working to suppress a vehicle fire.
State Police arrested Jarid M. Swan, 28, of Granville, on Oct. 28 and charged him with reckless endangerment in the second degree, reckless endangerment of property and obstructing firefighting operations.
Police responded to a report of a vehicle fire on Beaver Pond Lane in Granville at about 1:22 a.m. on Oct. 19.
A North Granville Fire Department member instructed Swan to stay out of the area due to the fire suppression operation, according to police.
Swan allegedly disregarded the firefighter’s instruction and drove his vehicle around fire trucks that had emergency lights activated and were intentionally parked to block the roadway to ensure firefighter safety.
Multiple firefighters reportedly had to stop their fire suppression operation to move out of the path of the vehicle in fear they may be struck by Swan.
Swan allegedly drove over several sections of charged fire hose while driving through the fire scene.
Swan was arrested at his home and transported to State Police barracks in Granville for processing.
He was issued an appearance ticket returnable to Granville Town Court on Nov. 10 and released.
