BOSTON, MA — A Newton man faces multiple firearm charges following a traffic stop Saturday night in Dorchester.

Jaekwan Joseph, 22, of Newton, was arrested by officers assigned to District B-3 at about 10:37 p.m. on Nov. 1.

Officers patrolling Washington Street observed a vehicle traveling without a front license plate.

Officers conducted a U-turn and followed the vehicle onto Millet Street.

A registration inquiry revealed the license plate did not match the vehicle it was affixed to.

The vehicle pulled to the side of the road near Park Street, and officers activated their emergency lights and sirens.

Officers requested the occupants exit the vehicle and conducted a motor vehicle inventory search.

Officers recovered a firearm from inside the vehicle.

District detectives responded to process the scene.

The firearm was determined to be a Smith & Wesson 9mm with one round in the chamber and seven rounds in the magazine.

Joseph is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges of possession of ammunition without an FID card, carrying a firearm without a license and unlawful possession of a firearm.
