BOSTON, MA — A Worcester man was arrested on firearm-related charges after police discovered a loaded gun during a traffic stop Saturday night.
Austin Tate, 30, of Worcester, was taken into custody by officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) on Nov. 1.
At about 8:09 p.m., officers conducting a walk and talk in the area of Harrison Avenue and Dudley Street observed a vehicle parked in a No Stand/No Stop parking zone.
Officers conducted a query of the vehicle’s registration which revealed that the license plate did not belong to that vehicle.
As officers were in their patrol wagon writing a parking ticket, an individual was seen getting into the vehicle and driving from the area.
Officers activated their emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop.
The operator was requested to exit the vehicle as it was going to be towed due to it not being registered properly.
A motor vehicle inventory search was conducted and a firearm was located inside.
The firearm was determined to be a Tanfoglio E.A.A. Witness with one round in the chamber and fifteen rounds in the magazine.
Tate is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court on charges of possession of a firearm without an FID card, possession of ammunition without an FID card, possession of a large capacity firearm, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, unregistered motor vehicle and number plate violation.
