Man arrested on DUI charge in Malta

MALTA, NY — The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man Monday after responding to a report of a male passed out in a vehicle with a newborn baby in the backseat.

Deputies responded to the call at 12:17 p.m. at 15 Round Lake Road.

The vehicle left the location prior to police arrival and was stopped by a deputy sheriff at the Interstate 87 northbound off ramp at Exit 15 in the city of Saratoga Springs.

Zachary T. Eveland, 25, of South Glens Falls, was charged with aggravated DWI, a class E felony, endangering the welfare of a child and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 7th degree, both class A misdemeanors, and DWAI-drugs and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the 3rd degree, both unclassified misdemeanors.

Eveland is accused of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license while his ability to do so was impaired by the use of a drug and at a time when a child who was 15 years of age or less was a passenger in the vehicle.

He was arraigned before the Honorable Francine Vero in the Saratoga Springs City Court and released to pretrial services pending further proceedings.
