Man arrested on animal cruelty charge in Syracuse

SYRACUSE, NY — Police have arrested a man in connection with an animal abuse case that left a pit bull with critical injuries.

Syracuse Police Officers responded to the 500 block of East Willow Street on Oct. 21 for a report of a suspicious person with a weapon.

Officers found a pit bull named Chance suffering from critical injuries.

The dog was transported to Humane CNY and placed in intensive care.

Chance has since made a full recovery.

An investigation determined that Raqueeb Shadreem, 47, of Syracuse, assaulted both the dog and its owner with a bladed instrument during an attack at the residence.

Shadreem was arrested on Oct. 30 and charged with assault in the second degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree and aggravated cruelty to animals.

He was lodged at the Onondaga County Justice Center.
