Wrong-way crash under investigation in Readington Township

READINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ — The Readington Township Police Department is investigating a wrong-way crash that injured two people on US Highway 202.

The crash occurred Thursday at approximately 9:11 p.m. on US Highway 202 near Summer Road.

Police determined that a Nissan Murano operated by Pedro Ramos-Santos, of Flemington, was traveling north in the southbound lanes of U.S. Highway 202 when it struck a Chrysler 300 sedan.

The Whitehouse Rescue Squad extricated both drivers from their vehicles.

Each driver was transported to a regional trauma center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation indicated that Ramos-Santos was operating under the influence of alcohol.

He was charged with driving while intoxicated, third-degree assault by auto, careless driving, reckless driving, wrong way on a one-way street, traffic on marked lanes and failure to keep right.

Assisting at the scene were the Raritan Township Police Department, Three Bridges Fire Company and the Readington Fire Company.
