Driver arrested on drug, child endangerment charges in Schodack

SCHODACK, NY — State Police stopped a vehicle on Columbia Turnpike for a traffic violation at approximately 9:14 p.m. Oct. 28.

The driver was identified as Joshua M. Getz, 37, of Castleton on Hudson.

Police said a child under the age of 16 and a controlled substance were located in the vehicle.

The child was turned over to a family member.

Getz was arrested and charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child (Leandra’s Law), driving while ability impaired by drugs, endangering the welfare of a child, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree and other Vehicle and Traffic Law violations.

He was transported to State Police barracks in Schodack, where he refused to be evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert.

Samples were taken to determine the drug and alcohol content of his blood.

Getz was issued tickets returnable to Schodack Town Court on Dec. 3 and released to a sober party.
