Woman killed in Gardiner crash after tree falls on vehicle

GARDINER, NY — A 77-year-old woman died after a tree fell on a pickup truck on State Route 44-55 on Friday.

Deputies responded to the area of 2539 State Route 44-55 at approximately 12:45 p.m. for a report of a motor vehicle accident with serious injuries.

Upon arrival, members located a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 in the middle of the roadway with significant damage.

The preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle was traveling eastbound when a large tree fell and crushed the cab of the vehicle.

The passenger, a 77-year-old woman from Gardiner, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The operator, a 79-year-old man from Gardiner, was treated at the scene by EMS and later transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie for treatment of potentially serious injuries.

The names are being withheld pending notification to family members.

The Ulster County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the New York State Police, Gardiner Fire Department, New Paltz Rescue Squad, New York State Department of Transportation and Central Hudson.
