Man arrested on sex offense charges in Rockland

ROCKLAND, ME — A registered sex offender was arrested on charges of sexual abuse of a minor following a tip from a concerned citizen.

Rockland Police were contacted at approximately 6 p.m. Oct. 29 by a citizen who reported observing a known registered sex offender having contact with a juvenile.

Police began an investigation and, with assistance from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office and Camden Police Department, located Matthew “Nate” Boegel, 27, of Bowdoin, and the juvenile in Camden.

Boegel was arrested on an unrelated warrant.

The Rockland Police Criminal Investigation Division continued the investigation and found evidence of a sexual assault on a minor.

On Oct. 31, detectives charged Boegel, who remained in custody from the prior arrest, with felony sexual abuse of minors and violation of conditions of release.
