DUXBURY, MA — Police are investigating a series of vehicle thefts and break-ins that occurred during the early morning hours of Oct. 30.
Shortly after midnight, police received a report of suspicious activity in the area of Walker Road.
The caller reported observing two individuals attempting to enter his vehicle.
Responding officers arrived on scene and located a vehicle that had been reported stolen out of Marshfield.
As officers canvassed the area, police received a report of suspicious activity on Bay Road.
Officers responded and observed a subject fleeing on foot before entering a stolen vehicle, which then sped away accompanied by a second suspect in another stolen vehicle.
A pursuit ensued through Kingston and into Plymouth.
One suspect eventually abandoned one of the vehicles in Plymouth and fled on foot.
The second vehicle was not located.
Despite an extensive search involving officers from Duxbury, Plymouth, the Massachusetts State Police, and the Plymouth County K-9 Unit, the suspects were able to evade capture.
Due to the high volume of calls reporting vehicle break-ins and suspicious activity across various parts of town, additional Duxbury officers were called in to assist.
So far, the department has received reports of four stolen vehicles and over a dozen vehicle break-ins.
At this time three of the stolen vehicles have been recovered.
All scenes are being processed, and several items have been seized as evidence.
