BRUNSWICK, NY — State Police arrested a Mechanicville man on arson and criminal mischief charges following a structure fire in Schaghticoke.

Sean M. Davidson, 37, of Mechanicville, was arrested Oct. 29 and charged with third-degree arson and second-degree criminal mischief.

Troopers responded to a home on Melrose Valley Falls Road in Schaghticoke at about 9:24 p.m. Oct. 28 for a report of a structure fire.

The Melrose Fire Department and several mutual aid agencies extinguished the fire.

An investigation with assistance from fire investigators from the Rensselaer County Bureau of Public Safety determined the fire had allegedly been started intentionally by Davidson.

Davidson reportedly knew the owner of the home and had an ongoing conflict with them at the time of the incident.

No one was inside the residence when the fire was started.

Davidson was located and arrested in Saratoga Springs.

He was transported to State Police Brunswick for processing and then arraigned at Schaghticoke Town Court.

Davidson was remanded to the Rensselaer County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 bail.
