SPENCER, MA — Police arrested a New York man who allegedly posed as a government and bank official in an attempt to collect $30,000 from a Spencer resident.

Fusheng Huang, of Fresh Meadows, New York, was arrested and charged with attempted larceny by single scheme and conspiracy.

The arrest occurred after detectives and officers from the Spencer Police Department, working with the Western Worcester County Major Crimes & Narcotics Task Force, conducted surveillance and intercepted the suspect before additional funds could be taken.

Police said this was the second time the victim had been contacted by the perpetrators, and the victim had already provided money during the first encounter.

Authorities reminded residents that no legitimate government agency or financial institution will ever ask for cash or personal information by phone or email.
